When it comes to contouring the waistline, many patients often choose to undergo plastic surgery to achieve their desired look. Two of the most common surgical procedures to eliminate a flabby stomach are liposuction and tummy tuck surgery. While both methods can help you achieve a slimmer and more attractive figure, these procedures are not the same. Choosing between liposuction, tummy tuck surgery, or a combination of both can all depend on your individual needs.
Liposuction
Liposuction can help patients who are struggling with stubborn fat deposits. This procedure targets and eliminates areas of fat that have developed around the abdomen, hips, thighs, chest, arms, and back. Patients who opt for liposuction must have good muscle tone, firm skin, and no excess of loose skin. Liposuction is not effective in tightening significantly large areas of loose skin or excess fat.
Tummy Tuck
Tummy tuck surgery, or abdominoplasty, is a longer and more extensive procedure than liposuction. Tummy tuck surgery removes excess fat and skin that may appear below the navel, which will give patients a flatter and smoother-looking stomach. This procedure is commonly performed on patients with abdominal muscles that have weakened or separated due to childbirth or significant weight fluctuations. Patients who wish to undergo tummy tuck surgery should be at or near their goal weight.
Combining the Two Procedures
In some cases, both liposuction and tummy tuck surgery may be necessary to achieve the desired results. Liposuction and tummy tuck surgery can be performed together to treat excess fat in the hips and flanks as well as those patients who are struggling with a “muffin top.” Both procedures can also be performed together to contour the upper abdomen. The combination of these procedures produces a slimmer figure and gives you the confidence you have been seeking.
